Chemical Plant Chiller Replacement
Case Studies
Carolina Chillers was asked to look at an aging Trane ABS absorption chiller that had been in service for over 30 years. Carolina Chillers provided the service for the majority of those years and knew the condition of the tubes and shells were quickly deteriorating. The solution, since the customer was trying to eliminate steam, was a modular chiller plant. Putting this project together took several years with design, payback analysis as well as providing the assurance to our customer of a quick timeline once the project was under way. The project basically involved providing and installing:
- Fully automated modular building to serve as new chiller plant
- (2) electric chillers, 700 tons each for total of 1400 tons
- Pumps, valves, piping specialties, automated controls, refrigerant monitoring, exhaust, cooling & heating for building, electrical starters, electrical panels & disconnects
- Complete piping including necessary buffer tanks. Includes necessary demolition of existing loop and connection of new loop and specialties
- Demolition of piping connections and electrical from existing absorption chiller to achieve “air gap” of all connected devices.
- Engineered Design and stamped drawings
